This was a great joy: 
2 huge pallets of food have just arrived at the animal shelter Anaa near Madrid. On site we could witness how happy the animal welfare workers and cats are about the food.

Great work on site
The animal shelter Anaa near Madrid is an excellent example of how animal welfare can work. We were able to experience how professionally the shelter is run. In addition to an area for dogs and a cat house, there is even an own veterinary practice that meets the most modern standards. In addition, it was really impressive with a lot of professionalism, love for the animal and passion of each employee was in action.

A lot is done for the kittens: The four-legged friends are not only cared for in the association's own cat house, but also outside in various cat colonies.

The street cats
It is a hard struggle for the street cats in Spain. In addition to the summer heat, which is hard to bear, they often cannot hope for help from the locals. Fortunately, however, there are wonderful animal welfare workers who take care of these kitties. The Anaa shelter works with volunteers, some of whom have been caring for these street cats for years. Of course, we did not miss the opportunity to be present at the feeding.

The feeding 
In the meantime, the street cats have also become accustomed to being fed at fixed feeding stations. These are regularly visited by the animal welfare workers and filled up with food. A very special project is located in an amusement park (Parque de Atracciones de Madrid). Here, the Spanish animal welfare activists have managed to neuter almost all of the street cats living there, thus containing the population. This project is a wonderful example of successful work for street cats. Therefore, it was particularly interesting to witness the care of the cats in the amusement park. In fact, 9 feeding stations have to be taken care of on site. There are feeding stations that are only for 1-2 cats and others where up to 10 cats are taken care of. It was so nice to see how the cats recognized the animal protectors and were already waiting for their food.

The example of the street cats in the amusement park clearly shows:
If the animal welfare workers get the opportunity to intensively take care of the street cats, it is possible to significantly curb the reproduction of the cats by castration. Irene - the head of the association - follows an important principle: Every new cat that is fed is also castrated directly if possible - this is the only way sustainable animal welfare can work.

So the more food is available, the more the animal welfare workers can take care of the castrations. The German non-profit organization "Sieben Katzenleben e.V." has recognized how valuable the work of the Spanish animal welfare activists is and therefore supports the work on site to the best of its ability.
